2012 HD Ride & Run 4 a Cure Update – posted February 3, 2012:
Mark off Saturday, August 25th, 2012 on your calendars for the 3rd Annual HD Ride 4 a Cure Trail Ride. We have a GREAT time with this event and we are looking forward to bigger and better things this year! Bring your horse, jump in a wagon, or just come down for a drink and a dance in the evening but don’t miss it! We have an exciting announcement to make – this year, there will be SADDLES up as prizes for top pledges raised in both the youth and adult categories – so get out there and raise as many pledges as you can for this great cause. Why not start collecting pledges today and increase your odds of winning a top pledge prize? In both the Adult and Youth categories, the prizes for top pledge raisers will be as follows:
1. First Place – HD Ride Saddle!!!!
2. Second Place – HD Ride Saddle Bags
3. Third Place – HD Ride Breast Collar

Following the great success of our 4 runners that braved the 23 km trail last year, we are hoping to add a separate running component to the HD Ride this year for all you runners out there. The run will take place prior to the main HD Ride. Last year, the 4 runners that made it through our trail raised more than $15,000 in pledges and we can’t thank them enough for their support. More details on the HD Run will follow soon! The plan is to have the runners hit the trail first thing Saturday morning prior to the horses heading out.-------------------------------------------
The Peace Country Chapter of the Huntington Society of Canada hosted the 2nd Annual HD Ride 4 a Cure trail ride on August 27th, 2011 and the weather was gorgeous this year – far better than the cold rainy day we had last year!
73 riders made the trek through the 23km trail. Between them, they brought in a combined total of $18,750 in pledges!! The award for Youth Top Pledges Raised was a tie and went to Kaden Link & Kinley Link for raising $450 each and Top Pledges Raised (over 18) went to Heather Tomshak for raising $2200. The award for most number of pledges went to Nina Johnson with 41 pledges. Riders collected a poker hand as they made there way through the trail and the top 3 poker hands went to Cliff Williams, Lois McAleney, and Ben White. Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone that took part and raised pledges for our cause!
A new addition to this year’s event, we had 4 gentlemen take on the challenge of running our trail on foot the day before the ride. Mike Weeks, Rob Major, Clint Brading, and Sheldon Ward took on the 23km trek including some pretty rough terrain but came out on top and raised more than $15,000 between them to go towards HD research.
Following the trail ride, we served a BBQ supper to 165 people in the Enframe TP Barn, had some live and silent auctions and everyone learned a bit more about Huntington Disease during our presentation. Shady Junction provided live music in the evening and we danced the night away with great company.
Once all the dust settled, our net profit on the 2nd Annual HD Ride 4 a Cure came in at an astounding $45,704.03!!! All funds raised will go towards supporting research working toward finding a cure for Huntington Disease and supporting local families dealing with HD.
